Got a question on 505's. The IPL shows 505 with 2 rings and the ebay seller of caber rings is for 2 rings for 505.

The 3 505's I  have are all 1 ring  ???  anyone seen  a 2 ring OEM 505 piston?

34 503289031 Model 505 (2 rings)

Did a little more digging this afternoon. Seems 2 ring ones were 1.2mm thick and 1 ring ones 1.5mm thick. 

Still has anyone seen a OEM 505 2 ring piston?

I've got a NOS JRed 2083 piston #503 72 35-02 and it is a single ring piston. Same with a 2077 NOS I have.......

Looking over both 505 topends one of them has to much piston skirt wear for my liking.

I'm thinking a little crazy right now on a piston I am liking in the 066 flavor.

My question is what are the 505 cylinders coated with CHROME or Nikasil ?  I never paid attention and dont plan on heading back out for a couple days.

Here is why. These pistons come with high performance chrome plated rings that are 1mm x2. They will only work with nickel ceramic coated (Nikasil) cylinders. All OEM and NWP cylinders for this model chainsaw are Nikasil coated. Some aftermarket cylinders are chrome plated. DO NOT USE in chrome-plated cylinders. ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR

There's always the guy in New Mexico that can make you a custom ring from ductile iron.

His price is around $11 but you will have to send him your P&C and the postage will jack the price up.
