I have a Poulan 505 that I bought about 8 months ago.   The piston and cylinder look good but the carb is bad on it.   The gas tank is also leaking and the safety lever in the handle is missing.   There might be some other things missing or wrong but have not dug into it.   I have a good fuel tank from a J-red 2083 that I was going to use on it.
I will also tear it down and do the usual like seals, rebuild the carb, get rid of the base gasket, and muff mod it.

Hope to make another good runner out of it.

During your searches for suitable piston substitutes for these saws, have you guys looked at either the 272XP or 181SE/281XP pistons for the 52mm saws and 288XP pistons for the 54mm saws?  Meteor makes pistons for all of those....

Cut4fun used a aftermarket big bore 372 piston in one of his Poulans. It was 52mm

I'm sure there is a reason no one ever used them in the 475 505 2083 2077etc.

I had threads on the 54mm and 52mm piston searches way back.  Just have to compare all the specs etc.

BB372 064 and 066 were my best choices. BB372 drop in no work. 064 and 066 need wrist pin bosses opened a tad.

13mm 281 288 to big of wrist pin.

Just guessing 272 might need spacer like in 7900.

I have always wanted to do a muffler mod on one of my Poulan 505's.  So I came up with this.   I like to use a small piece of pipe for most of my muffler mods and have a place to put the spark arrestor.    Ignore the clutch cover that says 475 I have not found a 505 cover for it yet.
