Poulan top handles
« on: October 19, 2014, 08:16:47 am »
I had to put new fuel lines in my MIL's Poulan 1800. I took it out to tune it and let my boy cut with it. Its about perfect size for him. I was thinking about buying one for him. Which is the best (power) Poulan top handle? I'm always on the look out for a blown Stihl 200t. But I remember someone saying that the Poulan top handles were good as well. S25DA the best maybe?

IMO the S25 ones 38cc have way more power in cut. But the micro ones like 1800 30cc, 2000 33cc to me are easier to work on and get parts for.

There has been alot of the AV model ones S25 on CL lately in the $50 range.  Some right now just to far to drive. I would prefer AV ones now. But a young lad isnt going to tell.

Yep.  The S25 variants are great saws with plenty of power (for a 38cc tophandle).  I prefer the S25-CVA versions with full AV.  They run a 16" bar with 3/8-LP surprisingly well.  Also easy to work on for the most part.  They're my favorite tophandle saws by a wide margin.

Consumable parts (carb kits, fuel line/filters, fuel cap duckbills, AF's) are still in production.  Just about any other parts can be found with a little searching.  Crank seals just went NLA this spring, but there are industry substitutes available.

I believe the Poulan 2300 cva and the Poulan 205 are top handle and 38cc.

They are, as are a few other Micro series models.  They're good saws, but aren't as powerful as the XXV series saws of the same displacement.

I didnt mention 2300 because of that reason.  I ran 30cc 1800 - 33cc 2000 - 38cc 2300 and the 2300 didnt have much if anything on the 2000. JMO   Nothing compared to the older 38cc.

Since I have the 2000, 2300, 205, and a S25DA I will have to consider a comparison some time.
I believe they are all reed valve.
