I bet it just needs cleaned, unless its broken....

I've taken them apart and there's dry crud mixed with dried grease inside the spring cavity.

I take them apart and the spring jumps all over creation. I clean it all up and lightly oil the spring with WD40.

Then I struggle to get the spring back in the cup. I start at the center and slide in more and more of the outside of the spring until you get all the spring in the cup.

It works like a charm when I get done. Then I'm proud as peach that I got that aggravating task done..

Back in my late teens and early adulthood I would do one every two or three years and it was hard for me but later on I was doing 4 or 5 a year and it became easy using no tools.

Butt if the spring is not broken and is functioning well it is best to not get involved wrestling with it for it will jump out of the cavity like a Jack in the box. Maybe even three or four times when you are trying to get it back in.
