As the others have said go ahead and check the p/c for problems.  You stated that you cleaned the fuel lines...were they still good?  Most of the time they are rotten on these....When you say fighting was it hard to pull over and then very rough & smokey once it was running?  Sounds like the needle is stuck open and the saw is extremely flooded....A carb cleaning/kit should fix it. ....make sure the fuel lines are good and not stiff/crumbly as they will clog a carb fast let alone break.
