If you have the two piece rubber pick up that the oil pump fits into that's likely your problem.
The rubber swells and the pump will sit at an angle and not seal causing it to suck air.

On the IPL they would be these two parts

40. 530019174 Seal--Oil
41. 530037057 Pickup--Oil

To correct the problem Poulan produced a one piece pick up to replace the two piece unit.
It will set you back less than $2.00
The part number of the one piece unit is.
