There is a small double sided connector that the duck bill attaches to.  The other side is connected to the piece Tygon and is then pulled up thru the hole in the tank.

The other side of the vent line on a 3400 or 3700 series saw has a duck bill on the end of it inside the tank.   Really no need for anything else.

Thank you. Thats what I replaced on 4000 with new line.  Duckbill

The 335 has the barbed nipple to accept the duckbill and the tygon as do all my 3400-4000's.  In addition though, the 335 has the sintered plug insert at the carb box end of the line.  I think the 3400-4000 (perhaps) skipped putting in the extra plug in the line by nature of where the vent line terminates.  In the 3400-4000 series the line is tucked in between the tank case housing and the tank.  There is relatively little dust there so I gather the line would not run the risk of plugging and eventually choking itself off.  The 335 on the other hand has the line terminate directly in the carb box.  Maximum exposure.  There will be a lot of fine dust in there and perhaps it is just an extra precaution to keep that line capped and clean but still breathing.

For these series where the vent line terminates in the interior of the carb box, a course threaded screw looks like it would work just as well to keep out the debris.

Those sintered plugs are slick though.

Thanks fellows - Cory

Well, I've got the saw running well.  Just waiting on a chain and rim and some test cuts.

Is this series generally difficult to pull over?  This one wants to pull back hard and I can't seem to find that sweet spot to rip it from.  It is thump...thump..thump for a few pulls then it will lighten up.  Walbro manual sets L and H at 1 1/4.

The two-finger sized pull start handle is not helping.  I am hoping the starter assembly is robust at this rate.

I have never had that series of saws hard to pull over.   You might want to keep an eye on it and see if it becomes worse.
What all did you replace on the saw?

My dads 3300 got to be to where it would bite him to start after 20 or so years.  It had that 2 finger to small t handle bad idea too. I went to a 460 rescue handle for him and redid the av's and intake and I think this is going onto year 27 of use now.

I just cleaned up the saw.  Nothing was replaced short of fuel/impulse lines and spark/carb kit.  AV buffers great as is the intake boot.

The saw just tends to bite back immediately or come up hard often.  With the plug pulled there is no problem.

I am wondering if the muffler is holding too much back pressure.  I am going to try starting it with the muffler off. I've yet to open the diffuser plate up yet.

Thanks guys,

Cory

If it turns over good with plug out then maybe the timing has changed on it.   That is the only other thing I can think of that would cause kick back other then high compression.

I was thinking timing too.

What happens if you just rip it good. No lollygaging pulling it over timid like.
