Replacement chain for 2300CVA (16" bar)
« on: May 01, 2013, 09:03:58 am »
Without wondering why I ask, does anyone know for a fact how many teeth are on Poulan's replacement chain:

P/N 574 821702
SKU 952-051211
Type 91VJP

On the plastic packaging, it clearly says 56 drive links, which is a no-brainer.

I'm surprised it doesn't (proudly) say how many teeth.  I only bring this up b/c I am aware of cheesy Chinese aftermarket replacement chains that have a tooth every 3rd link, for a total of 18.

BTW, I called Poulan and they could not find the product under their own P/N (above).  I think they referenced it by the Type, but could not tell me how many teeth.

I suppose I could just go back to Home Depot, find the same package, and see for myself.

If it were mine, I would get me a good 56DL chain loop made up of good (non safety) chisel chain at a genuine chainsaw dealer.

I've run the Wild Things with the Tri Link skip chain from Lowe's and they actually cut pretty well but it cramps my style.

Now that my better memory kicked in, I realize that the chain I described above was purchased on-line at Amazon.com.  It's a Poulan product and I'd now bet money that it's the one for which I have the packaging.  Therefore, it's a tooth every other link, as (imho) it should be:  28 teeth.   Before I found this bargain ($13.55), I had bought one from Home Depot - an Oregon S56 - which I know had  tooth every other link. (I returned it.)

Sooooo, I really have no idea where I got the awful 18-tooth chain from but you can be sure I'll never do it again.

Chain is not measured by the cutter tooth but by the number of drivers.    They do make skip tooth or semi skip tooth chains but when you by a chain for a specific bar length it is done by how many drivers.
PP 505, 475, 445.
