Poulan S25 crank seal
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:04:25 am »
My wifes cousin has a bad back so I found him an s-25 for next to nothing on flea bay a few years back .He isn't much of a saw mechanic so periodically I turn a wrench on it .

So it all starts out this time with running it with no  filter and sucking in a seed of some sort that got lodged in the little reed valve ,odd .Fixed that that .ran for a few days then it got impossible to start ,fixed the carb .

Good to go a few more days, back again .Well now what ?Fiddled ,twiddled farted around .

No start even with a prime ,a little putt now and then .Jerked the rope out of the starter .Then it dawned on me ,crankcase seal ,I'm slow on the uptake at times .I heard that SOB weezing as it was pulling over but slow as a snail at times it never dawned on me why in spite of a liberal amount of prime why the plug was dry .

I've found a seal on flea bay but for some reason I can't cross reference it with my master interchange book from Chicago Rawhide .Part number 5300019051,any ideas .

The reason it will not cross reference is that you have the number wrong. The number is 530019051   You had one too many zeros.

You get a 1,000 hits on Google with the good number.

Even with the right number it stihl does not cross reference to C-R

Actually some Stihl seals do .Unfortunately not the ones you want though being the clutch side seals .After moaning about the prices I've just resolved myself to pony up the money and not worry about it .Dang though 20 bucks for a 5 dollar seal indeed .Humbug !

Ha I just got off the phone from Jacks after amusing the sales lady with my farmer talk about things .They have to order them and I could not pry the cross number from her which she might not have known anyway .

I've went that route with McCulloch seals but it's about as easy to order them from Randy  in Seamans Ohio rather than fool around with the local Kaman bearing and take a month of Sundays to get them .

Al, I have (2) of those seals left in stock. $4.00 each. Shipping will be around $5.00, if you take one of them or both of them. David

Oh shucks I just ordered them from Jacks a few hours ago .Actualy I ordered  three just in case .I've got two s-25s' myself plus the one I'm working on .

A guy really can't complain too much because those saws were made in the mid 70's .I've certainly changed a bunch of seals on Stihls that didn't go nearly that long .

You know I look back on my stupidity in this whole thing .I knew better but kept thinking in my pea mind it had to be the danged carb .Dumb thing is when others have had the same problem I have advised them to check the seals .I guess I should practice what I preach or get my head outta my butt . :D

The CR/SKF # for the 530019051 crank seals is 5510.  That seal is 13/16" x 9/16" x 1/8".  Not sure if they can be gotten any cheaper than the actual Poulan part (530019051), which is still available through Husqvarna dealers.

Sure enough I found it by generic size in my regular CR book but not by the Poulan number in the interchange book ,strange indeed ..563 shaft ,.813 bore ,.188 width ,type/style HMSA1 ,double lip ,lip code r ,nitrile .

Some times that interchange book works and some time it does not .

I've got a bunch of seal and bearing books but as of yet have never found a good online cross reference without e-mailing one of 6 zillion seal and bearing houses .--thanks for the info --

You're probabley right about price .Those danged bearing houses like to charge you extra on a special order although they do place orders periodically themselves and could just as easily  add your order in when they order .You have to watch them because they can be slippery as an eel .
