You're correct. Stihl does offer 1/4 chain but doesn't mention lengths. Maybe I'm better off putting a 3/8 sprocket on the saw which probably means I would need to buy another bar.

You are definitely better off swapping over to 3/8-LP.

For older saws:
Tune the H side so that it 4-strokes (burbles) at WOT unloaded and just cleans up when under load.
When you lift cutting load, the saw should immediately revert to 4-stroking.  Fine tune the transition point for the wood you're cutting.

I might have 3/8 stuff you can have.  Drum etc. 

Aaron what all would he need? Not counting a bar chain etc. Drum spur only?

Yep.  Spur drum and a corresponding bar and chain.  All other parts are the same on these.

That's what I like about the more common vintage saws. Plenty of parts are still available with some parts currently manufactured.

I'm eventually going to buy an Oregon Pro-Lite bar and 91VXL chain to put on it.

Some where we had talked about the yellow and 2.1 mainly. Stumbled on this by accident today. yellow 2.3 poulan
