This thread you did 2 years ago had some good pics and build info. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/poulan/sleeper-3400/

I liked the 4000 I had, but never had a 3400 or 3700.

that's better! 8)

Wow you took alot off the intake, I am always afraid of getting that plastic to thin.    How about the divider where the intake meets on the cylinder.  Did you modify that also.

sorry for the delay 3000!
the plastic is actually pretty thick in those areas. i just look from the bottom and top to see where it needs to come off. you can really smooth the intake out, and it does help out.
didn't do anything to the divider except steamline it a bit.

I finaly got around to modding one of my 3700's.  I set the squish on it down to about .022" and ended up with about 180psi on the compression.   I did smooth out the intake some but not as much as you have shown brokenbudgent.   I Left the carburetor stock and modified the muffler.   I widened the ports on the intake and exhaust and shaped the tops of the transfers towards the intake.   I did not change any timing of the ports.   I also advanced the timing about 3 degrees like you suggested.   I used it not to long ago on a cotton wood with a 20 in bar and a square ground chain.
That is one cutting saw, and for firewood it is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

I will have to try grinding out the intake alittle more on the next one I do.   I have a 3400 with a 3700 top end ready to put on it and just need the time to get to it for now.

I also have another PP395 that I have not touched yet and plan on doing some similiar mods to it now that I know how good the mods improved the performance.    Thanks for the reply.

oh hey no problem!  i don't mind posting pic or blabbing about what issues i've run into :)
no idea why some of the old pictures dissapered. i see that sometimes in older threads but no idea why. i'll have to look to see where i have them, if i still have them. they may have been on my hewlitt packard camera that crashed a couple years ago.

I have done the same myself and figured out why on my end. If I moved a pic from a file to another file or renamed the file it was in, it changes the link code. Then the pic dont show up anymore to where it was posted.
