they're the same saw, just different cc. . the 4000 is the chrome piston alloy cyl. and thick rings, like the 3400 but 65cc. good saw.
i haven't had any problems with the chrome piston and bare cylinder on these and i have a few around here that i take care of that get run very hard by people that shouldn't own tools. yes, even one person who likes to run atf as a 2stroke oil when he runs out of the proper stuff

EDIT: kevin, the cyl is chromed and the piston is alloy. i'm getting these top ends screwed up.... nothig new
