a few more:

impulse port for carb:

a little bigger carb ;):

 all fit under the covers:

didn't do alot with the port timing (can't remember the #'s). i dropped the cyl. 28 thou and ended up with a squish of just under
21 thou (stock it was 52 thou-ouch) with gasket. brought the transfers back up, didn't touch the intake timing, just widened, as with the exhaust.

the one thing i found with these saws is the timing is way retarded. i ended up putting slots in the coil and i gave it about another 3 degrees total advance. that right there woke it up a bit.
compression went up from 125psi. to 148-150-ish (which seems like a pretty big jump?) and you can tell when you have the starter in your hand :D
these saws are set to about 11500-12000rpm stock, and this one was sounding lean at 11000rpm before the work.
i ended up splitting it and changing out the bearings and seals and resealed it up with good old 1194. now it'll 4stroke at around 13500-13700rpm and pulls very well in the cut. however it ended up starting to go lean on me again and i set it on the shelf for 'later' as i had a few other projects i needed to get at.
these are about the best firewood saw out there.
now onto the 3700 ;D

Is this what a 4000 looks like inside too?  I just picked one of those up on trade.

they're the same saw, just different cc. . the 4000 is the chrome piston alloy cyl. and thick rings, like the 3400 but 65cc. good saw.
i haven't had any problems with the chrome piston and bare cylinder on these and i have a few around here that i take care of that get run very hard by people that shouldn't own tools. yes, even one person who likes to run atf as a 2stroke oil when he runs out of the proper stuff :-X

EDIT: kevin, the cyl is chromed and the piston is alloy. i'm getting these top ends screwed up.... nothig new :D

seems to be not too bad. he says he's dun it a million times over the years. i tell him he should just buy more 2stroke oil. he laughs and says if the saw was to blow up from it, it would have done it by now. he's owned it since new back in '81 or '82. the cylinder and front of piston looks pretty good through the exh. port. never had it torn down, yet.
