McMaster Carr carries tygon 4040a fuel line
I have most of the sizes up to 3/8...for lawn mowers and my British bikes.

These 2 are for my saws. I get 25' at a time.
5/64"   9/64"   1/32"   5552K43   $0.82/ft
3/32"   3/16"   3/64"   5552K22   $0.75/ft
If the tank hole is a bit big the you can use a barbed union to swell the line. I think this was SOP on poulan micro XXV/1800/2000/2300 etc.
union pn 530023877 or rotary 13448 less than a buck.

The double barb fitting on the Micros lived above the tank (just outside of it).  There's a little recess to hold it in place.  The fitting is there to allow you to take the tank and left side cover off to service the starter and such.

The fitting does also do quite well in the manner that you describe (passing partially through the tank hole to swell the line and lock it in place).  I used one when I put an earlier style vent setup on my PP330.
