Well found the stud problem and why it felt like I couldnt tighten it all the way down It has had a helicoil fitted to the front stud and its not flush with the body so the bar plate sits proud so I filed the bar plate out so it goes over the helicoil and now it tightens up properly tomorrow will tell when I go cut some wood

I was wondering.

I had nothing as I never seen one of these series with a loose or stripped bar stud hole. Yet.

Yep wasnt sure whether to grind the helicoil flush with the body or not will get some loctite and lock the threaded stud into the helicoil as it unscrews the stud a bit as you take the nut off to change chains etc at least now I know whats happened. I am watching out for a couple more of these for firewooding nice weight good cutters.

well the chain stayed tight and then got tighter is there an adjustment on the oiler on these I thought it was oiling fine before but maybe that was because the chain was coming loose and I couldnt tell. The only change I have made was by screwing the stud a few more turns into the helicoil cant think that would have blocked anything. So before I try anything I am checking in here.

Yes oiler adjustable. Look underneath and open up till stops I believe,  turn slow as I cant remember how far out.   Turned in closes it to lowest setting.

I am starting to feel I cant win with this thing motor runs sweet but removed the bar tonight to look at the non oiling problem and half a helicoil and the stud came off with the bar. So looking into the hole I see a channel where lt looks like the helicoil has let go.
Is this groove part of the oiling system  no matter what some one has really botched this up I now have to try dig out the bits of helicoil that are still stuck in there and the only solution I can think of is to tap a larger thread into this hole then screw a bolt in mark where it is level with the casing then turn it down and rethread it to the original looks like maybe 5/16th.
But if the oil comes from the bottom of this stud I would need to be careful how deep I went in with the new thread. as I said in a previous post the only thing I had done different was to turn the bar stud in further then it stopped oiling.
Alternative is to find another bottom end and stick the p&c etc onto the new bottom end Opinions please. This thing nearly got launched at the moon tonight. cheers

WAG IMO that channel in bar stud hole has nothing to do with oiling.

Thanks for that  I can see things now they must have drilled through the casing by being off centre or something when they drilled for the helicoil I am gonna try my home made stud and see what happens got nothing to lose.

Over the weekend had a few minutes to look at this saw and the helicoil and try work out what had gone wrong. My thoughts are that neither the helicoil or the stud were loctited home so when I was tightening the bar nut it was spinning the stud in the helicoil driving it in until the stud bottomed out on the hole then proceeded to push the helicoil out. The broken 1/2 of the helicoil is stuck on the now free stud and the thread that was cut for the helicoil is stripped and burred.
So my thoughts are to retap and put in a larger bolt then remove and tap the excess down to 5/16 x 20 tpi   or would it be stronger to tap the large thread insert the bolt cut off the excess and thread the centre for the 5\16 stud. Thoughts from guys who are more experienced in metal work than I am would be appreciated
Which would be the stronger of the two cheers
