Poulan 3300
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:25:52 pm »
I had to buy 2 poulans to get the 1 I wanted. The one poulan has a 3400 recoil and I can see piston damage through plug hole and mainly bought for parts.

The 2nd one is the one I wanted. Is it a 3300 3000 3500?  All I can find on it is a sticker with 1991 and type III. Part of the word Timber+++++ on bar cover. Nothing on the recoil but poulan, which I found odd.

The yellow recoil is exact copy of the broken green recoil on it. I was able to do a quick trouble shoot and look over and fired it up on 3rd pull after dumping some very old stinking mix.

I'm going to scratch the 3500 off this list. The air filter cover is like one on a 3000 and a 305 I had. So now maybe 3000 or 3300.

My bet is that it is a 3300. Lots of them were listed as Timbermaster or something as well.

Definatly not a 3500 as like you said it has the narrow covers but it also has the narrow opening in the front of the case for the narrow muffler as well.

Here are a couple pictures of my nice 3300. $60 at a flea market.  ;D There nice runners and fine handleing.

Thanks Mark for your pics and decals confirm it for me. Your first pic with tag is same as mine type III and 530 number. I'm with you on it being a 3300.  ;D

Went out and double checked everything before making some test cuts.

Only thing that was wrong with the recoil was the tabs that stick up on the pawls were broke off and therefore wouldnt catch the  metal ???? on the recoil pulley. So I went to pull the 2 out of the 365 recoil and found only 1 of them was good. So time to order some pawls 530027162 .
The carb nuts had backed off 1/16 to 1/8" and carb was lose and muffler bolts loose. Otherwise very sound. Put 3300 recoil on popped 1st pull and started next pull. Checked oiler and was good. Put 20" b+c that come with it and test cuts. Good to go.

Now the kicker was I had to buy the 3400 to get the 3300 I was wanting for $20 for both  ;D  and 45mins round trip. Thinking it was a 3000 , 3300 or ??   I would have gave $20 for the one I wanted (heck the like new oregon bar and crap safety chain was worth more then that to me), let alone get a 3400 parts saw to boot.

Those pawls are cheap. I got a few extras when I made a order some time ago. Still have not needed any yet though.  :D

I plan on someday giving that 3300 a dual port muffler job like I did the PP335. I bet it will be a worth while mod for it.

OK I sent the 3300 out to be tested for a weekend of cutting. After going through it I came to a conclusion.

I used to own a poulan pro 305 and 335.

To me it looks like the yellow 335 is the same as the green 3300. I havent had a green 3000 yet, but betting it is the same as the yellow 305. Is this what you have came up with too?

No the 3300 is a plain bore while the 335 is plated.

The 3000 was a plated bore also.
