I may have my 1st Poulan next week if my brother decides to sell it. It's a 8500 he bought new in the mid 1980s. It has a working chainbrake [all saws sold in Canada since 1980 had to have chainbrakes, the Stihl 090 seemed to escape that for a few yrs]. This 8500 was the last "true Poulan" pro saw before Electrolux took over in '86. Poulan built a beautiful saw here, 85cc ,well balanced, fast and light. It competed with the Stihl 064 which came out in '86.

If any of you guys have never run a 8500, then you missed out experiencing a great saw. I don't have any pictures at the moment but maybe Kevin or someone can post some.

The 3300 3500 3600 and that whole series of poulan  saws are worth using and fixing IMHO.

good. you dont happen to have a service manual for it?

I dont sorry.

These saws is so simple to work on. If you have a question just ask and someone here can walk you through it.

You have the IPL?  3300 or 3500,3600 have you figured that part out?

Thanks for that Kevin, but I have to admit poor Homelite Jim's videos were pretty painful to watch.
If I get my brothers 8500 I'll post some pics and maybe a video or two. Along with that 8500 comes a Wolf tune pipe, some strong porting and a WB carb.
The saw has barely a scratch on it and I fondly remember how smooth and quick that thing cut even before he modded it .Plus it doesn't have that ugly full wrap handle either.
Like alot of guys I know who had said, you're not a Poulan man until you own a 8500.

Yeah it was Willard.

I was looking for the pic of a 8500 with the K&N filter set up I had seen before. So I settled for those video's when I gave up.

Hi,

Just pick up a Poulan, going by the pics on here is either a 3500 or 3600.

its a Type i Serial Number 530-029086

then this is below 95093h

Anyone know which one it is????

Its a brilliant saw, i fitted a clutch cover with a chain brake handle, but after 3 hrs i'd melted the handle off!

First Poulan was a 2000.   It is the first saw that I modified also.  Removed the base gasket and used needle files on the ports to open them alittle.  I put a new ring in it muffler modded it and that little sucker screamed pretty good.  I still have it and it cracks me up evertime I fire it up.
