Jim I was coming home from work yesterday evening and seen signs out on exit on 30 and to the RC club.  When I got out at the house I could hear some BIG motors.  Whats going on back that way?

They are having their big fall get together yesterday and today and probably tomorrow. (Spookfest)

I sent you a email with the flyer in it.

As far as model airplane fun flys go, it is a pretty good one.

It is like a huge chainsaw GTG except it is model airplanes. There are whole families present.

The airplanes and the flying is (are) based on the extreme hovering and close in maneuvers - low speed type of flying.

The airplanes, some of which are 1/3 scale and rather large, have over size engines some of which may be 250cc.

The engines are mostly reed valve types specifically made up for this duty.

Years ago, they would be big Dolmar and Husky cylinder based layouts with likely twin cylinders and reed valves.

Back 10 years ago you would have recognized the cylinders and carbs as some of your favorites.

Still, you would feel right at home with the gas engines.

There are big electric models too with Brushless DC type motors and LiPo batteries.

Favorite spark plugs are NGK CM-6, BPMR6F, and 1/4-32 threaded varieties. The high voltage part of the battery powered CD ignitions are usually shielded designs. They have a Hall effect sensor on the crank to time the spark. The ignition has a computer controled (PIC 12, etc) retard for hand starting by flipping the propeller with a welding glove on your hand.

This is one of the larger model airplane events in the state of Ohio in the last few years.

In the late 80's through the 90's, the largest Ohio event was at the Shelby airport on the father's day week end. Eventually the primary organizing individual got old and there was another event built up in Muncie, IN came about and the event disappeared.

Worked OT today and seen their signs were up 0620. You go over?  Seems windy for such here.

I was thinking they were having a swap meet today at the big church between Crestline and Shelby?
