Knock-off Remax G450AVS?
« on: November 30, 2013, 04:51:52 pm »
Might be worth taking a look at for a truck or trail saw, maybe a potential GTG toy? I don't know anything about them, haven't seen one in person, just thought I would pass it along...
I know we call these knockoffs, or w/e.. but I firmly believe that the company that makes these, only does so through rights granted to them by Redmax. Possibly not, but I know these have been sold in big box stores, as well as the "Blue Max" saws. This doesn't render out the possibility of them being some sort of grey market saw, but might be worth a look.

These are the earthquake cs4518 saws. I know they sell them at menards. From what I found online they are engineered/designed here in the USA and produced in china. I purchased 2,the cs4116 and the cs4518 from this seller. The plastics are cheap but usable. It is not a clamshell either. Compared to other box store saws(not including husky(lowes) and echo(home depot)) I would say they are a good seasonal home saw. They both came with much better fuel line systems than most and as always need carb adjustment which in my opinion have led to the bad starting and running problems listed in most reviews. Once adjusted(single d tool) They run and cut just as strong as the other similar class saws. besides the cheap plastic the rest of the saws are built well in my opinion. I bought the one above and another for a total of $105 with shipping. Both came with original box, manual, saw tool & scabbard. I have already recovered my money selling the 4518 for $110 on cl so the other will be pure profit. If your looking to flip them I personally would focus on the 4518 as I dont like the rear in-handle oil tank or the inside bar adjuster on the 4116. Plus a minimal weight difference and much more power on the 4518.

It would not be a single "D" adjustment tool on the needles with me very long as I would slot the needles. I'm not paying $50 for a "D" tool!

I have two of them on the way. I think I will open the muffler up on one of them, and have it for a small beater saw. The other, I think I might grind on, I don't know. I have heard of a few of these having 200+psi within a few tanks. I don't want it any higher than that.

Just came in tonight. Too late to fool around with, both show light use... compression is real stout. Pretty decent looking saws, cant beat them for 55 bucks shipped! I will keep you guys posted on how they perform.

Both that I ran sounded very restricted. A mm would probably help these alot. I only ran each for about 3 hrs chopping the top out of a hedge my father and I had just brought down. Once adjusted each idled and restarted easily. It appears that the clutch covers are formed for side chain adjusters but the 4518 was on the front of the cover and the 4116 was on the engine side. The 4518 I got came with a rim sprocket setup which I thought was neat for a box store saw. $55 to door and like new is never bad.....

I took a flap wheel to the crimp on the muffler, and took it apart. Ditched the primary baffle, got rid of the cat, the plate behind the plate (I refer to this as a secondary baffle of sorts, but I think it is just a plate to redirect the heat from the cat), removed the screen, and outlet tube. Lots of stuff to say the least, and this saw is actually in good tune without all this crap in it... These saws are unbelievably rich from the factory, just blows my mind!

I know a lot of guys are comparing these saws to box store units (in all fairness, they were sold at those stores), but this saw is a direct clone from what I can tell, of a Redmax G450... which is made with the professional user in mind. Mine turned out to be a real good runner. I will be putting a 13" K095 on it in the next week or two. 3/8LP just aint enough chain, but is decent in the smaller stuff.

I have purchased a few more myself. the last one I recieved had not even been fueled, completely brand new all there, just the box had been opened. I have had no problem flipping these here off of cl. If I didn't already have a very nice craftsman(pp290av?) as a little spare general purpose saw I would problably hang on to one of these and mess with it a little. Probably still will as this ebay seller has gone away from the BIN
auction to bidding but they are still going for around $55 free shipping......
