That saw  cut  with a muffler modded dual port MS440 71cc in 14" ash hardwood using same very aggressive chain on the saws.  It out cut a stock 372xp 71cc in same wood and chain.   Just saying.

I can believe it!  I was thinking of getting a 440 that has the cylinder base cut and a dual port muffler.  I was also thinking of a 372 with a 52mm big bore kit.  But I'm starting to think that any 70-75cc saw I get will need to be ported as well.  Otherwise, what's the point of having a bigger, heavier saw that can't outcut Redmax by a decent margin?  I don't really want to do 80cc due to weight concerns, so ported it will have to be.

How much bigger wood do you cut over 16" 20" etc?    Softwoods ?

I used to cut 16" buried on one side and go around to other side to finish it up on what was left. This was hardwoods.

I don't usually have to deal with very much over 20" actually.  And the hardest woods I have are sugar maple and cherry.  The cherry is almost always 16" or under on my land.

I also have an 18" bar coming for redmax.

Don't be getting the big head thinking that all ported chainsaws are as fantastic as that Redmax. Most ported saws are a little faster than stock but nothing like that chainsaw.

all depends on who does it...and yes ported saws are fantastic, dont let the fact some web sites allow substandard builders , build substandard machines be a benchmark for ported saws...race saws are even more awesome.
Kevin you have no idea how spoiled I've been ;D ;D

If anyone is still interested, you can sometimes still find them cheap.

I just got the Hitachi CS40EM = Tanaka ECV 5601 counterpart and am quit impressed. Of course it isn't ported but still it cut nicely through some heavy oak!

Yes the Hitachi CSxxEM (the numbers in the middle only dictate bar length) the Tanaka ECV5601 and the Zenoah are all the same!
