I was looking in the Stihl catalog and they have "RS" in .325 X .050 listed.

The point is, that dealer didn't stock it because typically a .325" Stihl saw is always .063" gauge from the factory.  And all the smaller Stihl saws that would use .325" come with "3" safety chain. It is part of Stihl's philosophy or maybe it is the EPA about the safety chain on small saws?

I changed my 026 to 3/8" X .050" and run RS chain.

I have a 025 Stihl that is .325 X .063" X 16" and it had "RS" chain when I bought it used but notice that it is .063.

.325 Stihl RS cuts real good.

Yea, I figured it was a local thing with this dealer, because .325 RS is listed on the main Stihl site.  I'm still deciding if I want to mess around with .325 at all on this saw if it's going to be the "3" chain.

Had I known then what I know now, I would have asked for a 3/8" bar when I bought the saw.

To get the chain you want and if the dealer is unwilling to order what you want for you. Buy online. JMO.

5th 346 OE or NE dont remember  5.62

6th 5100 5.66 woods ported

My 16" 3/8 .050 bar came on Thursday and I put on some stihl RSC to make "a few test cuts" -- Well that turned into at least a dozen cuts because it was SO DANG FUN cutting with this saw! I didn't film or time anything, but subjectively, the cutting power is HUGE. I FLEW through every cut, and even with the bar buried in 18" fir and me leaning on it, it just growled through whatever was there to be cut and asked for more. (Not that there was any need to lean on it.)

I ran it again for an hour Friday evening, and it was simply amazing.  I absolutely love this saw. This is the first ported saw I have ever run and I hope to have it for many years. It is very light, well balanced and nimble in addition to the great power.

I want to thank JJ for answering all of my many questions about the saw after purchase. He's a great guy to deal with.

I also want to thank Ed Heard for porting this saw so well that it is still going as strong as ever.  Your work is still being appreciated years later.  :)

Don't be getting the big head thinking that all ported chainsaws are as fantastic as that Redmax. Most ported saws are a little faster than stock but nothing like that chainsaw.

True not all ported saws are created equal.  Lot of them are hyped up but fall way short IMO.  I guess I was sort of spoiled.

LOL, I won't let it go to my head.  I did have a feeling the saw is pretty special, so you confirmed it.

My next saw, eventually, will probably be a 70cc with muffler mod and base gasket removed.  But Redmax is making me feel pretty confident that it can handle just about anything that I need to cut.
