I was just wondering what you guys use for fire starters.  I was using news paper for awhile but I do not like the smoke that comes from using it.
So I bought some of those small paper cups the kind you would use in the bath room.
I pack them with noodles from my wood cutting and then pour a little lamp oil in it.  I have a air tight container that I keep them in so the oil does not evaporate.  I can keep about 12 at a time in the container I have.
These things work really well, they have a long burn time give off no smoke and have no odor to them when burning.
I bought a quart of lamp oil and figure I can get about 60 to 70 fire starters out of it.   Time will tell.

In the Southeastern USA there is a long leaf pine tree. The heart wood of this tree is very resinous and will burn like the head of a match. It is easily started.

People in that area use it as a fire starter. They call it fat lighter'd wood.  Long leaf pine stumps are a good source of this kindling if you're into busting up stumps.

They will keep a bucket or box of fat kindling near the stove or fireplace.

Addendum: Actually a lot of pine varieties will have resinous fat wood in the stump. It will never rot in the resinous part of the stump. So an old stump 20 years old would be a great source of kindling.

An old mate of mine uses dried orange skin halves or peeled orange skin.

I just got my propane tank filled on August 1st.   I had not filled since last November.   I got the bill and
My propane costs came out to 30 dollars a month.   You got to love those wood burning stoves and all my work gathering firewood sure paid off.
