This is what happens when you get complacent using equipment.
I was splitting some really nice Locust firewood yesterday morning and my glove hooked the billet.
My thumb was smashed between the billet and the ram.
I guess this doesn’t have anything to do with chainsaw repair, but thought I would post, doesn’t really matter if it’s a log splitter or a chainsaw, you always have to keep your head in the game. Because the second you take your mind off of what you’re doing, something bad happens, maybe a dead limb falling from 50’
Hope everyone stays safe out there.

You are still lucky that it wasn't even worse.

My thoughts are with you. Had a few injuries myself.

2 friends were using one of their homemade splitters. One would load one put it in motion. Well their  timing got off toward the end and caught one of the guys finger tip and took it right off.  The owner of the splitter aka land owner too, his  insurance paid the guy like 50K for the mishap.

I have a pic somewhere where a another friend was cutting some crotched wood to split some wood and his daughters boyfriend went over to help and stumbled and fell into the moving chain hand first trying to catch himself.

My stomach churned just thinking about it. You were lucky, that could have been a whole lot worse. I watched a video demo of the operator holding his hand on the billet as the ram started to move, IMHO, the control lever should not be positioned to allow that.
