They thought the Wankel was going to be the ulitimate engine .Used that engine in Mazdas, snowmobiles ,chainsaws and even a lawn mower .I think in a motorcycle or two also .

Problems. The rotor tip seals would fail and they drank gas like crazy .It might have worked out maybe using more modern components but I think they pretty much died 25-30 years ago as far as interest .

The Wankels relied on speed to produce power as they were not noted for low end torque .Kind of like compairing a small block Chevy to a big block Ford in a manner of speaking .

They're a neat idea, and may be the future, but the cost is 14,000$ for one, that's what I was told last fall at the Johnny Appleseed festival.

This is all tru (excuse me for my Englisch, I am from Holland). The rotor tips are made of ceramic now (is that modern... I think so!) The "problem" we had, was the ignition. now the problem is solved, and the saw is running verry good!

I just came back from the world championships, and I run the third time there in the hotsaw event. I allso saw a post about the price, this is  €7500 euro ($9853,50)

If somebody wants more info, please contact me!

They did produce a lot of power for no bigger than they were .Then a little problem arose called a shortage of gasoline and they pretty much got put on the back shelf .Problem being they never were real efficient regarding fuel usage .Not a big deal on a saw but a real big deal in an automobile .
