Solo 650
« on: May 06, 2014, 03:55:02 pm »
I ran across a German made 650 at a pawn shop for $150. Still has an Ace Hardware sticker on it marked $289. Looks pretty clean but the front AV mount on the recoil side is loose. Is this saw worth a look at this price? Pretty sure they'll come down at least $25. Parts availability?  Thanks for any input, I don't know anything about Solo.

Thanks Brett for letting me know where this was. They did come down & got it for $120.  It's going to need a few little things but should make a good saw.

Found a nice looking Solo 650 for $120. I'm only getting 130 compression cold and I am having trouble with it as it warms up. 130 sounds low and the fact that it wants to die out after I cut for 30 seconds or so makes it seem like a no brainer. What do you all think though? I can't find compression numbers for it. I can't open off files on this phone.

Maybe. That should have read, I can't open PDF files on this phone. Is 130 cold, low?  Sounds low for a saw thats plastic looks like new so I'm wondering if it was straight gassed.

Ruled out straight gassed. Piston and cylinder look great from intake and exhaust. Carb kit is next with a general maintenance tune up. Air filter design sucks, no pun intended. Fuel bulb is part of it and to get the filter loose the carb comes loose as well.
