Any info on the solo 651? Good bad etc?

I think I may have run of these  08-10 and compared it to a 5100. Cant remember for sure though.

no experience with those model 651s'. however, i did put some good hours on the 651 pro and the awsome 656 pro.
imo, better feeling saw than a husky 346. lots more grunt than a 5105.
the 651 is a very good saw. very suprising in stock form. a muffler mod makes very good gains.
the 656 is just flat out a little monster.
too bad they don't want to sell here anymore >:(
i bought the 651 from a local dealer a couple of years ago and made the mistake of lending it out to a good friend. :( lost a very good saw that
day.

looks like the 656 here:

he liked it so much he bought it off me and bought the 656 a week later ;D
those saws are still running excelent today. only one oiler gear for the 656 has had to be replaced as of today :)
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

All I can find is this and that cant be right for new.  :o   Solo 651 20" Chain Saw 50.9 cc Catalog Price: $529.95
and Price:    $667.00

i payed just over 6 for the 651 and kristian payed about $75 bucks more for the 656. well within the same price range of the stihl ms260/261, and almost $200 lower than the husky 346/jonny 2153.
and well worht the money. :)
they just discontinued  the 651 and are sticking with the 656. i'd buy the 656 if i was to buy another. same saw as the 651 with more cc.

What is the difference in these 2 651 then the newer 651 now days in silver and red.

This is copy and pasted info I have found on the other 2 so far.

 Solo 651 vs 651SP

The major difference apart from the red top and some other minor differences is this:

    1) 651 has a totally different piston (short and cropped skirt) same jug
    2) the 651 has a electronically controlled variable advance ignition module (as opposed to the standard electronic ignition on the 651SP
    3) The 651 has a rim drive as opposed to a spur sprocket on the 651SP
    4) The 651 has a magnesium sprocket cover and different chain catch arrangement- the 651 has a composite side cover.

The 651 I am looking at used by emailing is one of the 1st 2 older ones.  Not newer as I thought.

yeah i've never ran the older version. but man the newer 651 ia a real runner :) however, by the sounds of it maybe it's easier to get more out of the older ones just from the piston design. longer, wider skirt.... ;)
i have heard they were pretty good runners, just no personal experience with them.

I'm just planning on buying, check over and resale for firewood cutter.  IF it is still around when I get to it.   2hr drive round trip.

Longer I wait I just hope it gets sold and goes away in my mind.   ;D :P :D

The 651 in craftsman colors I passed on.  Was just $85 and didnt need or want to try and flip it later.   My drive and time meant more to me right now.

Thanks Kevin, I never saw one of those in the Sears colors. I knew they made them, and I assumed it would have been the gray/black colors.

This chassis is one of Solo's better efforts. I've still got a 644 and 651pro from back when we were selling them. Funny thing is that with time flying by, (maybe this isn't really funny), these saws are 20 years old already! So, on one hand it shows it's a decent design, and on another, it's getting a little on the old side.

My 651 was my main saw for about 7 years, with the 644 mostly being a backup. Kind of proves that we really don't "need" a lot of the saws that we think we do. Good power and I still think it's a comfortable saw to run. Never let me down during that time. I mostly had a 16" on it, switching to an 18" if I ran into something bigger. I still take it out and run it about once a year.
