Chainsaw Repair

My bud Tom the tree guy busted one of his 020's a few years back from a tumble from a tree .Broke the oil tank which is part of the cranckcase .A new set is half the price of a new 200T .

I landed one for about 45 bucks with a crank shaft off flea bay .

So today when I put it all togehter I took some pics because often people ask "how to " on these little things .

Lets start with the handle .Two shock mount screws in the top ,one on the wrap handle ,one screw on the front mount the ground is connected to .
 One connection inside the front part of the handle which goes to the coil as a kill wire .
Of course you have to remove the carb,impulse line and tank vent .
Remove the metal ring inside the boot and fold it inward ,off the whole mess comes . 


Reinstall in reverse using a piece of small line to help get the boot back in the handle .

Removing the piston on these things are is a pain because they are so small .It only has an 8 MM pin with a 9 mm circlip . I use an ice pick to get the clip out .To reinstall I have a homemade driver but even with that it's a chore .Fact I put one in orbit today but as luck would have had several more as spares .

Face the arrow on the piston towards the ex port or to the right while looking at the flwheel .Make sure the gasket is aligned properly .Because of the way the transfers are made it only fits one way . Make sure the ring ends are aligned with the pins in the ring grooves .Slip on the cylinder .Now some people use a ring compsser but I can get them on without .Fact I've never used a compresser on a chainsaw but to each their own .Whatever works .

The easiest way to set the air gap on the coil is with a business card .The one in the pic is exactly 10 thou thick .Just loosen the coil with the card between the flywheel and the coil .Roll it around and let the magnets pull it in place .Tighten the screws and remove the card ,good to go .

I forgot something .You can get the cover off with  the boot in place but it's a beech trying to get it back on .There's  a plasic thing that takes the place of the normal clamp used on most Stihls .Just pry the thing off and pop off the boot . Be a little gentle with it because it's made of thermal plastic .

Note worthy perhaps .Having used both a stock 200T and a super bee over the last week -10 days I can't believe how fast such a little saw can suck down gasoline . Besides a little climbing I used these little pot lickers to limb and it seemed I was always running out of gas .Unbelievable !
