024 Recoil Problem ??
« on: October 29, 2013, 02:54:55 pm »

Hello gentlemen, I'm new to the site but was hoping one of you guys could help me out with my saw.... Over the weekend the small clip on the recoil popped off. I put it back
on and now only occasionally will the saw start. Is that small plastic "lever" of sorts supposed to move freely ? I'm thinking the centrifugal force of pulling the cord causes that to swing outward
and engage on the flyweel to turn and start it. Is that correct or am I looking at this wrong ? The recoil seems to work fine so I guess I'm just missing something....

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys, Steve

Looks right in my mind.  The plastic white dawg should move out and back in freely in the spring area.

Thanks for the replies guys. I fooled with it and I guess I've found the problem.....

I've found used Ebay starters for the 024 for about 25$ and a new aftermarket starter for 60$ @ Bailey's. There is also a new one listed
on Ebay for 46$ shipped but who knows about the quality...

What do you guys think ? Used or new replacement. It's a good running firewood saw.

I just bought a "Used, Good Condition" starter off Ebay for 21$ shipped. I'll see what happens next week when it shows up.

Thanks guys.  ;D

I did see one listed for $14 plus shipping... Bailey's had replacements for 10 + 5.99 for shipping...

I figured I was further ahead just buying the whole assembly. I hope so anyway.... Lol.

Cool...thank you for the link !  That pulley is 7.06 shipped before any discounts...  I guess I should have waited for a reply before I bought that assembly..

Story of my life... Doh !

I should order it and reassemble my original recoil just so I have it. Hmmmm.................

Thanks again and I have a quick question.. I am looking for opinions on a new saw for myself, the 550XP vs the 261M Tronic... Where would I post that ?  ???
