034Av Muffler issues
« on: December 14, 2016, 10:03:25 am »
Hello, New guy here! I'm down here in south Alabama. I have two Stihls models 041 (1986 I think) and 034AV (Early 90's I guess). Anyway I decided to do a good cleaning on these saws. I enjoy tinkering on the saws because they belonged to my Dad and I lost him 4 years ago. The 034AV needs a new muffler because it has a small hole in the top of it. I have attempted to find a replacement muffler on line and every muffler I see is not the one on my saw. My muffler has two screw holes in the bottom of the muffler on opposite corners. It has the screen spark arrestor on it and once you take the front off the muffler, you can access the two screws inside the muffler then remove it. I will try and attach some pictures. I want to buy a new one. Please tell me where to get one and or the part number. I would like to know what the AV stands for on the model number because I cant find this anywhere. I have downloaded the manual but it is no help. Thank you.

Are my pictures showing up?? This muffler is not smooth on the front, it has a cover with holes in it and has the spark arrestor screen.

he one I posted above on ebay is the one on my 034AV but the description doesn't list it for a 034. Just wonder about that.

The original part, muffler rear is either  1125-145-0700 or 1125-145-701.That's for the 034,clip top two screws bottom .For the 036 it has two screws top,two screws bottom .

I know if you use an 036 cylinder on an 034 you need spacers under the two screws .I don't know it might take a spacer on the cylinder if you went with an 036 muffler.
Fwiw an 034 is the same displacement as an 036,I have one in my shed .If it wasn't dark out and so cold I'd trot out and see if the muffler is like an 034 AV or an 036

That aside why not just braze the hole shut ?Unless it's got a giant hole .

The clip top with two screws is what I have and it has the spark arrestor on it. To my knowledge, my dad never had any major work done on the saw. Still don't understand why my muffler doesn't match the ones listed in the manual or in photos. The hole is on the top edge and even though I do weld, solder, braze etc...I don't think I could fix this due to its location. I might try this weekend but I still want a replacement. Thank you for the info. If it warms up and you can venture out to look at your saw, I would appreciate any more info. I sure wish it was cold here.
