044 bearing options
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:31:07 pm »
Have an 044 with bad bearings.  Any alternatives?  Stihl is proud of them as we all well know.  Anything to watch out for in this situation?

Whats stihl getting?  I know one of them can be matched up cheaply. The other was oem till now it looks like.

I'm up for trying new things ;)  PTO bearing if I remember correctly is north of fifty, really that is all this saw needs so.....   Will make some calls today.

Well, this is my third 044 and it looks like the crank of death has gotten this one as well.  Is it really that common or have I just been unfortunate?

flywheel side 9503 003 0346 21.45$

clutch side 9523 003 4275 32.00$

Those are list prices, and for OEM lawn and garden bearings those prices are comparable
to what everyone else is getting for ball bearings.

I think I paid 18/25 for mine from the friendly local Stihl dealer a couple weeks back.  At that price, and given how often they don't need replacing...

I'm not sure of this so  can only go with past experiance .Many if not most of Stihl bearings are OEM on the clutch side and may or may not be OEM on the flywheel side .Seals are same .
