044 Clutch side bearing
« on: January 26, 2020, 03:08:57 pm »
Trying to replace clutch side seals.  Buggered up 2 in the process.  Staring at it I just can't see that seal going over what it's suppose to go over.  It looks like the bearing is too high and the seal has to go over the inner portion of the bearing.  Is this bearing too high?

Did your saw come with that sealed bearing deal that stihl tried for a bit. Then they went back to the other style.

I dont do many stihls to be much help at all on this.

But something dont look right.  Your bearing turning in case?

This was an auction find.  Slept under the basement steps until recently.  First time I have opened it up so your guess is as good as mine.  I do know, now, that the oil pump spacer bushing should be used to set this seal (in the S.M.).  I'm not sure, but that soft shoulder (lip on crank) should/not be above the seal??   Waiting for seals to arrive and I'll take another crack at it.

Later and hope all is well,

Fred
