066 Big Bore Kit?
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:43:34 am »
Not much activity around here lately, so I thought I’d ask.
I’m building an early 066. I want to put a big bore cylinder on it, but I can’t find a Meteor Kit that’s 56mm?
What Big Bore Piston & Cylinder Kit are you guys using?
Should I just stay with the 54mm meteor Kit?
Any Advice would be appreciated

A 066 upgrade would not be complete without using the later version crankcase-crankshaft w/poly flywheel and late model starter cover with the rectangle in the upper right corner Stihl emblem.

The best 066 cylinder is the first OEM red light design without a compression release.

that sounds good, but my case has the metal flywheel, there's a listing on ebay now, the guy has three cylinders listed, one without the decomp.
wonder if the cylinder without decomp could be a redlight?
was the redlight model the only 066 without the decomp?

AFAIK the original red light cylinder is the only one without decompression. The first picture is a 066 with a an original starter cover. Notice the Rescue starter handle because the chainsaw cylinder has no decompression valve.

The second picture is of a 660 but this has the more desirable starter cover that is supposed to let in more cooling air.

That's a nice saw, that rescue handle is a great Idea, that handle would be good on my 460, when it's cold and wet out, my 460's compression about breaks my fingers, it has the decomp, but i never use it, My Dealer told me if a saw gets used to you using the decomp, it will be hard to start without it, Did you ever here of such a thing?
I hope to get the cylinder from ebay, Guy said its in nice shape, no decomp, and 54mm
there's only one thing i would need to complete the saw, and that's the air cleaner cover, hate to bother you with it, but could you give me the part number for the cover, if you can?

Thanks for all the info, I'll post some pictures when I get this thing together
1122-140-1002 is the round top cylinder cover, isn't it?
I'm gonna use the flat cylinder cover, i think the # 1122-140-1001 is the air cleaner cover for the flat top?

will the later style starter(the one with Stihl in right hand corner) work with a metal flywheel?
