066 carb tuning after muffler mod
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:43:48 am »
G'day everyone,

First off, please excuse my ignorance if I ask something stupid, I've been looking around here at all the great info but need to ask some questions.

I have a 066 that I've just got 2nd hand, in very good condition but I'd like to do a muffler mod to it. Might do the same to my MS381 too if I get excited.

My question is: When tuning the carb after the mod, I know the max revs for my model is 13000rpm. With the effects that the muffler modification is to have, should the high revs still be 13000 (with more torque?) or is the mod supposed to increase actual rpm? (like I said, excuse my ignorance).

Thanks in advance!

Russell

Looks like you have a dual port cover already. Check carb tuning if just installed. Skip to my  other info for back half modding, recheck carb tuning.

If stock I keep them like this. On a stock saw with muffler mod the rpm is still the same IMO.  After muffler mod you will richen up the H side to bring it down to the desired rpm. You should notice quicker cut times and more power in the cut.
Sometimes you have to adjust the L for throttle trigger response, most times I have noticed not though. Sometimes the I idle needs tweaked, then again most I have seen stock with MM didnt. Usally just the H side.

The 066 660 DP dual port muffler cover is a great flowing cover and a bolt on.

On you back half drill out the holes on your cage or remove it if you have one there.

On your back half where your exhaust exits open that hole to the deflector.
