I have a ported GTG 066 that has the choke parts removed for better air flow. I may be going to a race in a month or so that requires a working choke, so I was going to take the carb off my 064 and put it on my 066. Having both filter covers off, the 066 carb is visibly much bigger than the 064 carb. The 064 carb is a wj35 and the 066 carb is a wj48. I certainly do not want to put a smaller carb on my 066. Any one know of a good carb swap for the wj48? Or I wonder if i can just buy the choke parts for the one i have?

Spec info from Walbro on WJ carbs.

The carburetors of the WJ series have been designed for professional applications, especially for chain saws from 50 to 100 cc displacement.

Technical Data:
• Casting available in the following dimensions in mm:
        Choke Bore        Venturi Ø                    Throttle Bore
        22.19                  14.29/15.08                19.01
        22.19                  15.88                          20.56
        22.19                  16.67/17.46/18.26      21.43
        23.38                  19.05                          21.43
• Mounting holes, distance between centers: 31 mm.
• Metering system and fuel pump integrated in the carburetor casting.
• Can be delivered with or without choke.
• Adjustable high speed needles, idle needles and available idle adjust screw.
• Available extras: speed governor, fast idle system.

Will the 064 wj choke rod going through carb come out and fit in the 066 wj? If so couldnt you make your own choke plate to fit the bigger carb bore?

Whats the rules and class for this?

My stihl dealer says they can't get parts for the wj48. That is a good idea about making my own plate. The wj48 bore is 1mm bigger than the wj35. The rod is the same length i think. so maybe i'll aquire a junk 066 carb for the choke parts. The class is 60cc and 100cc with no two piece head and working choke. jred said they didn't check their chokes last time but I would like a working choke for it anyhow.

Here is my 064 I modded over 20 yrs ago, still runs strong today. Mine has a 084 carb on it . As you notice it has no choke as I used it in competition no problem without the choke. You need to carry a little Visine eye drop bottle in your pocket filled with mixed gas. In the staging area when no one is looking squirt a shot of gas into the carb through a 1/8" hole drilled in the filter cover just below the cover's knob.

Hey take a Digital LCD Caliper Micrometer or old school dial one and see what you get for the choke bore in mm. I found 2 different extra wj's and they both have 22.28 mm choke bore and the one on my 066 same.

Your wj48 must be this big one.    23.38

I can send you the choke parts and it could be in there for looks  ;) or make a larger plate.

Yes. it is the 23.38. But i was thinking. I wonder if the smaller choke plate would work?

I would prime and have the saw working prior to. It should hold the prime for a awhile and before racing give it another squirt.

IF some one wanted to see the choke then as long as linkage was hooked up etc it would look like a working choke.
