Neil. hope all is well in Aus

Helping a friend get this thing apart Unscrewed the four machine screws and it seems to be locked on from age.

There was a paper installed between fanwheel and flywheel - with age it seems to glue the two pieces
together. A slight tap against fanwheel at odd angles will get it separated- usually - But do not hit it too
hard or will have several pieces rather than just two parts.....

Just to clarify its a lightning not a standard 090. No threads on inside of flywheel hub like the 090 has. If aclarke is referring to the same friend.
chainsaws are chainsaws but stihl runs through my veins

No threads inside the hub for pulling! I figured my standard Stihl puller sets would work but no dice. Thks for the input

All is good here in Oz mate, 1 meet to go this Saturday to finish off our racing season, been a long season this year.
I agree with choppinbill, the fan and flywheel do stick sometimes and need a little tap, a puller is needed for flywheel removal.
I have not had anything to do with the old lightning's.

Good deal Neil!
Fanwheel came off and this saw has the internally threaded flywheel so the 26x1.5 Stihl puller should work.  Thks guys...
