170 runs great upside down but no power rightside up???
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:27:36 am »
 ???

I have the smallest saw I could find. Its been about a year or so. Suddenly it lost power Ive tried new plug etc. I had it going good off the bench and then in the woods it kept bogging down so bad I cant cut.

While screwing with it I held it over my head upside down and she throttled right up as if working like new. ???? As soon as I bring it righ side up she boggs down.

Any ideas???

Put the chain on backwards, add a section of handlebar and use it upside down... :)

But it sounds like a carb issue, did you let gas sit in it for a while?

The fuel pick up filter must be up in the top of the tank or there is a hole in the fuel line near the top of the tank?

OK'  so it turns out the muffler filter was plugged solid. The equivalent to a clogged tail pipe. I didn't even realize they had one till I stumbled across it. Still a bit baffled why it would run great upside down but it makes perfect sense as to why it bogged down with no power.

Either way' problem solved. Thanks for the tips. They got me digging in till I found the issue.

Clogged spark screen never crossed my mind being you said runs upside down.  Thanks for letting us know the update and problem was solved.
