660 muffler pipe ?
« on: January 03, 2018, 11:22:31 am »
I was thinking of adding this pipe  to help get the exaust soot farther away and maybe a might quiter as it will be blowing down away from me. I got a Hyway dual port on my other 660 and it's just too loud when milling. Pipe size is 11/16" inside and hole behind it maybe 3/8". Muffler body has no cage either.
I'm just looking for opinions.
Thanks,
DJ

I really do not know if it will help with the noise that much to be honest.    I have a bunch of saws with muffler mods and I always wear ear muffs so the noise does not bother me.    I would rather have the performance.

The more pipe that goes inside the shell the quieter it gets. I use 1" on 70cc huskies. I would think that and the 3/8" might be enough for a 660

Should run good, but personally when I modified a muffler with extra outlets for someone I still installed a screen with the outlet,I  would not want to think my mod caused a forest fire,so for that reason I used screens back when I modded saws for customers at a dealership. I know most people don't care, but it's something to think about...
In a high flow muffler the screen will not plug for decades,or be any kind of restriction.

I cut in National Forest so those saws even though have been muffler modded do run a spark arrester screen.   The screen also seems to quiet the saw a little.

Thanks,I'm glad someone agrees, some people just thought it wasn't Manly" to install screens, but it would be hard on my conscience if I thought a muffler I modded caused a forest fire, then also the person may try to suit you in court if he got in legal trouble over it.

Similar to when some fallers bought a new saw they wanted the chain brake(056 is in the chain cover) wanted the chain brake removed by us and replaced by a normal chain cover without the brake, but one day a faller's new saw kicked back and severed a few of his fingers off,he was in trouble with Workers Compensation and tried to say a fault with the new saw caused the accident so he claimed the throttle stuck somehow and tried to divert the blame on us. So keep in mind legal things that could backfire when you modify something from factory stock. Something to keep in mind.
