Aftermarket 048 piston/cylinder.
« on: December 04, 2014, 12:43:23 am »
A friend of a friend (long story) has an 048AV that the dealer has told him has a scored p/c.  He wants to get it running.............and the task has fallen to me.

I haven't torn it down yet...............but I'm hoping it has a salvageable cylinder.  Are there any decent AM pistons out there (such as Meteor) for this saw?  I've seen some no-name AM slugs for sale for this model.........but I'm skeptical.  Are there any AM jugs around for them?  I gather this is somewhat of an obscure model.  I don't know much about Stihls....

Alternatively................I may soon be in the market for a good used p/c...

Yeah that's what I saw when searching Northwood's listings a while back...

That one does looks good enough to give it a shot.  I'm just peeing in the wind until I get the saw and pull the jug however.  If the jug's shot..............then the saw'll be retired (unless I can find a reasonably priced good used p/c).

There sure seems to be a lot of interrelationship with those Stihls in that size and up through the 064? They are all 52mm?

There would have to be a wrist pin match then a comparison of deck height and skirt length?

That's an interesting point.  Maybe there is some interchange.   Meteor does make an 064 piston....

With the Meteors you can look up the deck heights and skirt lengths.

When you get the 048 and pull the piston, you can compare?

That's a good idea.  I just remembered that I downloaded the 2014 Meteor catalog a while back...
