Aftermarket cylinder and piston for MS250?
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:44:14 pm »
Any recommendations on a cylinder and piston? I just pick one up that was scored and with either rebuild or keep around for a parts saw. OCD kicked in and made me buy this saw!

I did find a piston pretty cheap like 19 bucks .If that cylinder would clean up it might be the hot ticket .Rubber gloves ,3m green scratchy and easy off oven cleaner might do it .No flap wheel now ,you'll grind right through it before you know it .Traveled that road .

The motor actually turns free so it may just need a piston and rings. Are the ones from HL ok or is there an after market that is better?  ???

Make sure you get the right piston. 2 were made 42mm and 42.5mm. May not apply to the 250 but does the 025.

What makes you think you just dont need rings? Have you looked through muffler or had piston off yet?

I havent heard anything good yet on the HL place. Only bad reads so far.

Thanks. I am taking it completely down tommorow to see what I need. Rings only would be great. I will keep you posted and maybe some pictures.

Well I kind do some stuff half fast some times but I've buffed them out if they aren't too bad . A low spot below the rings unless it's a giant one usually won't hurt you .A high spot is what breaks the surface tension of the oil film and will get ya .

The thing won't be perfect but you probabley won't even notice it if it holds compression .Just depends on what you want to do with it I guess .

You get it going with maybe new rings  and  run it with 32 to 1 and it might go for years .
