Chainsaw Repair

Hello everyone,

I've owned an 029 for several years.  I love the saw.  I run Oregon 72DPX100U chain with it.  I buy it in 100' rolls.  I recently bought an MS271 that I really like too.  It seems to have more power than my 029.  Anyway, I figured two STIHLS with 16" bars would run the same chain, but the 029 calls for 3/8" pitch 1.3 mm gauge chain, whereas the 271 calls for 0.325" pitch and 1.6 mm gauge chain.  I didn't catch this when I bought the 271, but it is maddening to think I have to try to keep track of separate chains for the two saws.  I don't want to do that.  What options do I have?

I've attached an image of the specs on the two bars.

The sprockets on both have seven teeth, but the sprocket on the 271 appears to be smaller than on the 029.

I agree with cut4fun. Switch your 029 over to .325. You won't be disappointed at all. I run .325 on a ms 361 with 16" bar .325 pitch and love it.
