I have seen that info....and have focused on the AM for parts to nudge a bit more life out of older or damaged saws. The "whole saw" from aftermarket parts is a fun exercise, but I'm not certain of the implications and ramifications of guys like Dave  selling them! Stihl can't be supportive of that type of activity and I wonder about Government  EPA and safety regulations. I guess one can argue a 660 is an obsolete saw no longer produced. For me, a source of AM parts makes sense from time to time depending on the Situation. Huztl has always been a place I go for online service as they have treated me well. The value of a guy like Dave is if he stocks parts therefore shortens the delivery time. Pretty much everything is available on eBay but you have to wait if they are overseas....unless you stock your own parts. Think I might try two concepts... the "Heart transplant" using a AM Short block to revive a dead 660 and a "Make Over" using plastic to salvage a crushed 660.... Put them in the test rotation. The plastic I've seen for the Husqvarna's has varied, Some has been more than acceptable, and other less so.. and this winter things that appeared more brittle proved to be so... :)

But no one seems to have run and compared those AM saw to the real Stihl..  That's what I was looking for. Maybe I'll just do it when time allows for fun.

I tested out a big bore aftermarket 066 topend years ago and was impressed with it stock.  They are still iffy though if you will get a good one or not I hear.

What all ended up being aftermarket parts on the saw?

Husqvarna  Canada has pretty well every OEM part  needed to build a brand  new 272XP.....
I wonder what that would cost? :D

Yea its pretty much all AM except the bar & chain. Runs pretty good. Funny thing, the gas cap leaked on a hot day when so I went to the local "Stihl" dealer for a replacement. And it was identical to the one I took off. SO I swapped seals and the original stopped leaking. So much for Stihl dealers caring about their parts sources...and I paid OEM price. I want an OEM cap! Also building a second one to test "OEM" intake parts on and it will be the 56mm cylinder as well.... wonder if the combo of OEM intake & 56mm cylinder will be noticeable.

My original build was a seized 660 so I opted for a short engine assy from Huztl and it's the original capacity of 93cc or their about's everything fitted just fine with no hassles runs fine

That's good to know and interesting as well... there are a lot of those old monsters out there, and this might be a legitimate way to extend their useful life..
