FWIW picture number three is what I dealt with on an 024 before I modified it .Which as the picture indicates is greatly choked down not lending itself to great flow in it's stock form .

Hey Cut4Fun2, I finally had the time to take the muffler cover off.  It matches your pic #2.  Spark arrestor screen is clean.  Any point in modding it???

Thats  about as good as it gets stock.  So it's your call.
Me I would dremel all the holes elongated to make 1 long hole (thats just me).  Some would just make existing holes larger by drilling.   Take a look at your exhaust exit to see if you can open it up some by using a screwdriver to pry opening or dremel existing opening open more.

Here is one I did.

By Exhaust exit do you mean the outside (exit) of the exhaust cover or the muffler housing where it meets the jug?

I've still only got a half dozen tanks through mine but I'm really enjoying it!
I'm used to bigger heavier saws (I alway thought the 041 was a little saw), but now that I realize I don't need one for what I'm doing, I'm REALLY enjoying the light & good cutting little 026.  On a week long firewood cutting trip to a bible camp in interior Alaska last year I took my Jonsored 670.  When I leave next week I'll be taking my 026 & my Husky 257 will be there for a backup.  The 670 will be a loaner if anyone needs a saw for the trip!
The Husky 3120 definetly won't be going ;D
