440 460 hybrid
« on: October 19, 2014, 04:47:57 pm »
I've seen this brought up many times, most recently in jmesters thread. What does the conversion entail? Is that extra 6cc's pretty noticeable in cutting? Thanks

Slotting holes in base of cylinder and trimming a little off the cylinder to clear the flywheel. There's a little plastic to trim under the top cover. Need spacers for the muffler support bolts on the bottom.

Yes

They are a blast to run. I only did mine because I got a toasted 440 for cheap and had a 460 cylinder lying around. Fun build and fun to run when you are done.

Sounds cool. I have a used 440 and a like new 441with maybe 6 tanks through it. If that 440 wears out I'll have to make it a hybrid. Somebody has written 44-1 on the plastic of the 440???? I got it used and the guy didn't know why that had been written on it.

This writing is often on commercially used chainsaws. I have some with identification on them.

I ignore the writing and the saw runs just fine.

:D Yeah it runs fine even with the writing. I do know it was used commercially. 44-1 being so close to the 441 model could be coincidence. Its written in 2 spots with the - in both. Who knows? I hope it lasts a long time but the hybrid would be a fun project.
