will it fire with some fuel direct into the carb or a few drops down the plug hole(replace plug) before cranking when you say it won't run I am presuming it doesn't fire the way you are trying, is the plug wet after cranking

Yep I am with Pete.  Put some 2 cycle mix down the carb hold the throttle wide open and pull the rope until it tries to fire off.
If it does that means the Spark is good and compression is good.    Then time to look at the carb.
Make sure you have the gaskets and diaphragms in the correct order and then like Jacks54 mentioned check the impulse and make sure it is ok.
I would also check the intake boot and any other air leaks.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the input, here's the latest.... had tried shooting either into the cyl and also through the carb neither got the desired result, plug was wet so it was getting gas, rebuilt the carb, stihl (LOL) nothing, cleaned it out incase it was flooded, no good, let it sit over night, pulled the cord started on first pull, runs like a **** ape, go figure, hope it keeps up, thanks again for the help, Mark

Could be it was just flooded the whole time.   Good deal.
