homemade rear cover - stihl 028 super WB
« on: July 26, 2014, 11:39:24 pm »
I got an 028 av super wb for $50 and I can't find a carburetor cover for it anywhere online or locally. I'm considering trying to make a cover from sheet metal or maybe plastic.  Just looking for some advice/ideas on materials and design.

It runs great I just can't really use it without the cover.

Chainsawr shows them sold out but may still have some around. Try giving them a call and see before going too far to make your own.

Great news - chainsawr has one!

I am going to get it, but I have another question. My chainsaw is an 028AV Electronic QuickStop.

However, mine is completely missing the chain brake. I do see to threaded studs where it most likely mounts.  Any ideas on picking up a used chain brake? I see this on ebay, should it work?

There's more to a chain brake than the plastic hand guard/lever.  If you remove the dust cover from over the brake mechanism and post a picture I'm sure we could tell you whether it needs anything else.

Yeah, all of the crazy variations of the 028, which s why I have not parted them out on e-bay.  Because E-Bay expects the
sellers to eat all of the "returns", so the many variations are out there.  The chump buyers will buy whatever, and expect
the seller to eat all of the losses, and e-bay will back them, and I know of no-one that purports to be an 028 expert that is
willing to lose a lot of money on.....

Yeah, that may be a good thing.  We all have a ton of old 028 and 041 carcasses laying about, and if we can post pics and discuss whether or not they would work for another guy.  Without wasting money on shipping first.
