M-tronic Carb

I work for a Conservation Corps that runs a fleet of Stihls some are 362 some are 362C. We've been having problems with the M-tronic carbs that the 362Cs run. The saw runs fine for a few weeks then the "smart" carbs (ZAMA) start freaking out. They start fine then after a few cuts, the saw dies. I've been on some forums that say this is an issue with the solenoid in the carb. We've tried replacing the solenoid, but the problems persisted. Recently I've toyed around with putting a standard carb from the 362 (Walbro) on the 362C. No matter how many jet and idol adjustments I try, I can't seem to get the saw to run right.

My question is, has anybody tried this? As far as I can tell the cylinders are them same on the two saws, but I'm starting to think there might be some variations in the cylinder ports of the 362C that make it incompatible with the standard (Walbro) carb.

You might be having icing up problems if your in freezing temps. There is proper winter change over procedures as quoted in the owners manual plus a available winter kit.
I hear smoke from fires can effect the M Tronics as fire fighters don't seem to like them.
If all else fails do you still have warranty?

Iceing is definitely not the issue. We operate mostly in Texas. We also don't operate saws while on a burn so I don't think it's the smoke either.

I'm trying to figure out why the old carbs don't work with the new saws. Or if anyone has discovered an actual solution to the smart carbs or as I like to call it "skynet" issues.

The flywheel and ignition module also play a part in some of the difference between an m tronic and non m tronic. Member here [ Nathaniel Vansickle ]  has done a few conversion from m tronic to regular carb on the 362 and 261. Hope he will chime in.

I went the other way....converted non mtronic saws to mtronic.

should be a straight forward swap to get rid of the mtronic and there shouldnt be different running characteristics between the 2 carbs....only real difference is the mtronic meters the fuel vs standard carb metering with screws.

try disassembling the mtronic carbs and cleaning them, then install new solenoids.

Stihl had issues for awhile with those carbs having debris in them from the machining process. about a year ago we were handed a box of "pre washed" brand new carbs to swap onto saws as they came into the shop for service to fix that exact issue
