ms 192tc
« on: June 28, 2014, 09:49:29 pm »
Hi,
I just picked up a used ms 192tc that I am not able to start.  The compression is 125 if my guage is accurate.  Is this sufficient compression for this saw?
Thank you!

That should be enough compression to get it started.

Beside compression, it takes air, fuel, and ignition . . .  Do you have all these?  Is the spark plug wet?

Thanks for the reply.  I checked the compression again and it is more like 142.  I removed the air filter, and put a little mixed fuel in the carb inlet, and still nothing.  It seems to me that is it was a clogged carb, putting fuel into the card should at least make it pop.  The plug is sparking and I also tried a plug from a working blower.  It has not even popped once.  I also checked the exhaust screen - relatively clean.  Are there other screens deeper in the muffler that could be clogged?  This one has me baffled.

There's only the one screen in the muffler.

You need to have the throttle partially open for the engine to start. Usually there is a fast idle function available on the carburetor for starting. It is probably set by the little lever in the top front of the handle that turns the ignition off-on?  I know all the way forward is ignition - off and I think straight up is ignition - on.

But to squeeze the throttle trigger full on, pull the little lever to the rear and letting go of the trigger will leave the throttle on fast idle until you touch the throttle whereby the little lever will snap to the center position?

If you get so far as to flood the engine, they are difficult to start.

You need to look at the electrode on the spark plug to see if you have gas inside the engine yet?

I will dry my plug and then try to start it and check my plug for wetness.  I have several Stihl weedwackers that have the same type of throttle idle configuration.  I am surprised that I can
not even get a single pop from the engine.

Do these saws use a Reed valve? I have not worked on a 192.....Some Reed valve saws will not pop off if the Reed valve is open
Trapped in time, surrounded by evil, low on gas

I'm not sure about the reed valve.  I had a friend look at it this morning and it looks like we may have a leak in the fuel line.  I am going to open it up and see what I can find.  I am still surprised that it won't pop with fuel poured into carb.  Maybe it is just flooding it.  I would imagine that the "Easy Start" feature builds up compression, so that it may be too flooded by the time the compression builds.

This is not a reed valve engine!
