ms211
« on: January 23, 2015, 08:39:22 pm »
Got a nice ms211 last week and it would quit during the cut. Just fade out like the fuel line was collapsing or had a pinhole in it. Done a little research and found that it has a summer/winter shutter on it. It was set on the winter setting, changed to the summer setting and it straightened right up. Good smooth cutting no fading or acting sluggish. How does that work exactly on the shutter. My guess was the saw was not getting enough air.

I don't have a MS211 but on the saws I do have - the shutter redirects engine heat into the carburetor area.

660mag is correct, it directs warm air off the jug to the carb to prevent icing.

As I have already said, I'm not familiar with the MS211 but I've experienced on some chain saws, pressure differences in the carburetor air box as a result of the baffle being open or closed. This will require one to readjust the needle valves when the baffle is opened or closed.

My experience has also been that between operation in the summer time and cold winter operation requires the needles needing to be re-adjusted anyway - Baffle or not.
