Sounds like it has been muffler modded.

What makes you think that? Because of a hole in the piston?

With the 025, the hole in the muffler body behind the deflector plate has been enlarged to cover the entire recessed area under the deflector. The deflector outlets have been bent out to open them with a big screw driver. In a buried cut on pine, it sets the bark on fire. Also the deflector inside the muffler has had the holes enlarged. The 025 is loud and runs good. Nothing stuffy about it.

This 025 ran rich enough to four cycle even with the muffler mod with the original single needle carb but I changed it to a new twin needle carb before doing any cutting with it. The new carbs were cheap from Stihl at somewhere around $23.

My 026 has had the muffler opened up also to go along with the ported cylinder. It has been done much like the 025 muffler and is also loud.
