ms280 no start hot
« on: November 14, 2014, 10:31:51 am »
I own a 6 or 8 year old ms280 that runs fine except for when it is turned off to refuel, stack brush etc. Won't start back untill it cools off for some time. Knowing just barely enough to be dangerous my first thought is vaporizing fuel in the carb. Is this a known problem for this model? I always use 93 octane non ethenol fuel with a slightly rich mix of optic 2. Also wondered about maybe some kind of heat related ignition breakdown. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If getting a coil for this saw, make sure you are getting the correct one, the earlier 280's had the same ignition as the 270, the newer ones don't.  different coil and flywheel.

Look for a number on the old coil and flywheel and look for a comparison with the IPL

But my IPL for the 280(2004) only shows one model number

Yeah, it was then.  I started parting out the ms270 back in 2008ish, but I had troubles with the flywheel and coil, they were working a new system....

Yeah looking back at some bulletins, they had the regular ignition, then they introduced the Intelligent Engine Management
on the MS280 later, which had a different coil and flywheel.
